Some people believe that the personalisation agenda, including individual or personal budgets, is not really deliverable for older people and for people with mental health problems. Concerns about risk and some people with mental ill health raise valid concerns that need to be addressed. The early individual budgets evaluation, which included very few older people in its research, raised questions about the extent to which older people wanted control over their services and budgets. More recent work has shown how both older people and people with mental health problems can and do want to be equal beneficiaries from the personalisation agenda.
This event aims to uncover some of the myths around personalisation for older people and those with mental ill health. It will show how health and local authorities can bring together the strategic and practical aspects of good commissioning in a way that delivers the government agenda around personalisation and really helps to change peoples' lives - particularly when co-production is taken seriously.
There will be the opportunity to hear first hand about when personalisation works, how it can change lives; and to take part in workshops on the latest DH guidance on how to practically make this happen.
